Activity Workshops for Young Children

Summer 2010 SCHEDULE

June 14 - August 27 

Overview:   Baby Ph.D.’s Activity Workshops are very informal.   Our goal is to create opportunity for children 0-3 and their caregivers or parents to get together on a regular basis to learn, play, and benefit from one another’s company.   Active adult participation is encouraged – children are most open to participation when they see you participating and having fun too.

Time & Location: All workshops take place at the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club - 5480 S. Kenwood.  Times listed below are the hours between which the activity will be taking place. The dance and music classes have distinct beginnings and ending times. The two hour activities are open ended - you may come and go as you please.

Cost: Classes are $5.00 drop-in or $40 for a 10 session pass.  If you purchase a 10-class pass, you may use it for any combination of classes. Passes may be purchased on site at the workshops or online via Pay Pal (extra $2 service fee). Classes are free to Baby Ph.D. Childcare Network members and affiliates.

Mondays

9:30 - 11:30 – Open Play Group & Story Time 

Children will be free to play with kitchen sets, blocks, puzzles, and other educational materials. This is a an open-ended play time.  Class meets in the Baby Ph.D. Childcare Network Activity Room. Crafts and other new activities following a BUG theme will be added beginning in July.

Tuesdays 

9:30 - 11:30 - Creative Art

We utilize a variety of art materials to create many lovely and unique decorations for the front of your refrigerator.  We also present activities that are primarily sensory and have no concrete end product.  We often arrange the class in a ‘centers’ style: children may visit each ‘center’ for as long as they wish.  Some may want to make the rounds several times, others may stay in one place for the whole session.  Class meets in the Baby Ph.D. Childcare Network Activity Room. 

Wednesdays

9:30 - 11:30 – Infant Play Group

     Bring infants to play together in a low stimulation, calm environment.  We meet in the Baby Ph.D. Childcare Network      Activity Room.  This group may include 30 minutes of music time at 10:45.   This class is intended for infants      and toddlers to 18 months. This helps us to maintain a safe environment for the youngest  articipants.      Thank you for understanding. 

Thursdays

9:45/10:00 – 10:45 – Dance

We will sing, move, dance, play games, and even learn a variety of basic dance positions.  Adult participation is key to getting children engaged in this class.  However, it is fine and normal if your child simply wants to wander around or watch for the first few sessions.  Class meets in the dance room. Note: This class often does not actually start until 10:00 a.m.

Fridays

     10:15 - 11:00 - Music for Fun & Learning

     We will be singinging, clapping, moving, and playing along with rhythm band instruments to a variety of children’s      music.  Again, adult participation is key to getting children engaged in this class.  However, it is fine and normal if      your child simply wants to wander around or watch for the first few sessions.  Class meets in the Baby Ph.D.      Childcare  Network Activity Room
