Fall
2007: Current and Upcoming Openings
Maria Petrusek
– Central Hyde Park
Maria Nieves Petrusek was born in
Tucuman, Argentina, and has lived in the
United States with her husband for the
past three years. She has extensive
experience caring for children and
infants, including children with special
needs. Maria enjoys teaching Spanish and
learning (and teaching!) American Sign
Language.
Maria began her work with The Baby Ph.D.
Childcare Network in September 2006 as a
daycare teacher. In that role she
worked with children between the ages of
3 months and 3 years. She implemented
the Baby Ph.D. curriculum and acted as
lead teacher for Spanish and sign
language instruction. After just 8
months, she transitioned from being a
daycare teacher to a Network consultant
for Spanish and Sign Language. Over the
course of the spring and summer 2007 she
compiled the Spanish and Sign language
curricula that are now being used across
the entire Baby Ph.D. Childcare
Network.
Beginning this Fall/Winter, Maria will
be opening a small home daycare of her
own. She will have assistance from her
husband, Matt Petrusek, and she will
receive ongoing programming and
administrative support from The Baby
Ph.D. Childcare Network. Maria's
daycare has a great central Hyde Park
location and promises to be a very
loving and enriching environment for all
of the kids in her care.
Rani – Central Hyde Park
Rani’s home daycare is located in
University Park Condominiums in the
heart of Hyde Park. Rani is originally
from India. She is in the United States
to accompany her husband who is pursuing
a post-doc at The University of
Chicago. Rani cares for up to three
children at one time (including her own
2 y/o son Harish). She collaborates
frequently with Shoba, another one of
our smaller Network providers who is
located in the same building. As a
mixed group, the children cared for by
Rani and Shoba, participate in frequent
on-site special programming workshops
led by Baby Ph.D. Network personnel.
Those include: Spanish Language, Sign
Language, Little Readers Book Club, and
Creative Arts. Rani also frequently
brings the children she cares for to
participate in large group music
sessions at the Baby Ph.D. Dorchester
location.
Robin Hawkins: “Robin’s Nest” -
Bronzeville
Robin’s Nest is located near 43rd
and Ellis. The daycare is in a lovely
newly renovated brownstone. Robin
opened her home daycare in the summer of
2007. Prior to that she was working in
the finance industry. She is now very
pleased to be engaged in what she sees
as much more meaningful and gratifying
work. Robin is licensed to take up to
10 children in her home. Beginning in
January 2008 the children at Robin’s
Nest will be participating in frequent
on-site special programming workshops
led by Baby Ph.D. Network personnel.
Those will include: Spanish Language,
Little Readers Book Club, Music, and
Creative Arts. Please see the attached
documents giving additional information
about Robin’s Nest.
Kiley: Kemit
Learning Center – Bronzeville
Kiley
Russell’s “Kemit Learning Center” opened
in the summer of 2008 on the ground
floor of a beautifully renovated
Bronzeville mansion. Prior to opening
her home daycare, Kiley was a school
administrator in Oak Park. She is
really pleased to now be operating her
own ‘school.’ In addition to all the
great programming Kemit provides,
children enrolled there participate in
on-site special programming workshops
led by Baby Ph.D. Network personnel.
Those include Spanish Language and Sign
Language and Creative Art. Kiley has a
license to care for up to 12 children.
